Talkin' Compensation

"Not even a minute!"

Old Religion

7 years old in my heavy new clothes
Seats were unbending awkward and cold
I've never seen moments perish so slowly
As we went through the rigamarole

It was old religion old misery
Always the same no liberty
I didn't want to stay in it for one extra minute
That old religion had a hold of me

Not lacking in smallness some years ago
What little it owned surrendered it's glow
I thought this is religion and I've got to go
It's surely no rock'n roll show

It was old religion new misery
More of the same less liberty
I wouldn't stay in it for even a minute
I'm out of here
Won't you let go of me

Now time is too short to be narrow and cold
I don't need you wearing my kind of clothes
And I don't need you speaking in my kind of prose
That old religion has just got to go

It's that old religion same misery
All tastes the same when there's no liberty
And I just can't stay in it for even a minute
That old religion's got nothing on me

That old religion old misery
More of the same less liberty
And don't keep me in it for even a minute
That old religion's got nothing on me
Got nothing on me
Got nothing on me
Got nothing on me
